You won’t be stuck for great things to do, since Weedingshall boasts a wide range of activities on site, in walking distance and nearby.
Starting with our site, being situated in 4 acres of woodland means we have room to offer some great amenities, including:
• Barbeque hut
• Picnic area
• Decking area with fire pits
• Children’s playpark
• Nature trails
• Optional hot tubs
Situated where we are, in the middle of the greenbelt, means we have a lot right on our doorstep within walking distance too. The beautiful Gray Buchannan Park (an Outlander filming location) is right across the road, along with Polmont Burn and other walking trails. Just minutes away you’ll find a range of restaurants and an extremely popular garden centre and, coming very soon, the Falkirk Distillery will be opening (we’re in stumbling distance!). The Antonine Wall ran right by our site, and the largest fort along it at Mumrills right beside us. Sadly the fort is no longer visible from ground level, but a section of the wall is visible at Polmont Church, in easy walking distance. Also in walking distance is Laurieston Bowling Club, Polmont Sports Centre, and (about a 30 – 35 minute walk) the Falkirk Stadium, Helix Park and the Kelpies.
The Falkirk area is seeing a boom in tourism thanks to fantastic attractions such as the famous Kelpies and Helix Park, the Falkirk Wheel, the Antonine Wall, and a wide range of activities on hand, from cycle routes, segway tours and alpaca trekking (to name a few). You’ll find plenty of spas, golf courses, fishing, shops, pubs and clubs and watersports available nearby if that’s what you’re after, and two new distilleries coming soon. Within a few miles you’ll also find the wonderful Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, Callendar House, Blackness Castle, Scotland’s largest railway museum at Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway and Muiravonside Country Park – all of which have been Outlander filming locations (and if that’s your cup of tea, you might be interested in a suggested local itinerary here). Other great attractions nearby that deserve a mention (or a visit) include the Historic House of the Binns and Hopetoun House, Bo’ness Motor Museum, Bo’ness Hippodrome and Barony Theatre, Kingsfield Driving Range, Beecraigs Country Park (offering fantastic views of the Forth Valley, as well as woodland walks and lake fishing), and Linlithgow Union Canal Centre, which runs regular boat trips.
Since we’re right in the heart of Central Scotland, Weedingshall is perfectly placed to make the attractions of Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow handy too. Stirling is rightly famed for it’s wonderful history, with Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument (both visible from Weedingshall) and the Battle of Bannockburn Centre all ‘must see’ visits. Edinburgh, a 20 minute train ride from Polmont, is one of the UK’s most visited cities, with Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyrood, museums, galleries and more offering plenty to keep you busy, and of course the internationally famed Festival and Military Tattoo in the summer. The attractions (and shopping) of Glasgow are just 45 minutes by train.
